my iced matcha era

my iced matcha era

I'm not going to lie.

Quitting coffee has humbled me.

There have been mornings where I've stared into the distance wondering if this was really the life I wanted to choose.

I've questioned my decisions.

I've missed the ritual.

I've missed the smell.

I've even missed walking around with an overpriced iced coffee feeling like I had my life together.

And while I still don't regret quitting caffeine (my nervous system definitely doesn't), I'd also be lying if I said it was easy.

It's been... character building.

Thankfully, there's been one thing that's made the transition feel a whole lot easier.

Iced matcha.

And honestly?

She's been carrying me through.

The biggest difference I've noticed is that coffee used to make me feel like someone had pressed the fast-forward button on my brain.

For about an hour, I felt unstoppable.

Then I'd crash.

Or I'd feel a little anxious.

Or I'd find myself looking for another coffee just to get through the afternoon.

It became less about enjoying coffee and more about chasing energy.

Matcha feels completely different.

Instead of feeling like I've been launched into the day, I just... wake up.

The energy feels steadier.

Softer.

More like someone slowly turned the lights on instead of setting off fireworks in my nervous system.

And after everything I've noticed since giving up coffee, that's exactly what I needed.

One thing I really missed after quitting coffee wasn't even the caffeine.

It was the ritual.

Making a drink in the morning.

Holding something cold while I started work.

That first quiet moment before the day properly began.

Iced matcha has filled that space beautifully.

There's something about whisking it, pouring it over ice, adding milk, and taking that first sip that feels intentional.

It slows me down for a minute.

And I think we all need more little rituals that don't revolve around rushing.

I'm not going to pretend I don't still think about coffee.

Sometimes I'll walk past a café and that smell alone nearly convinces me to change my mind.

Some mornings I miss it.

Some mornings I don't.

That's probably just part of changing a habit you've had for years.

But having something I genuinely enjoy has made it so much easier.

Because I've realized I wasn't just addicted to caffeine.

I was attached to the routine.

The comfort.

The familiarity.

Having iced matcha means I haven't had to give all of that up.

I've just swapped one ritual for another.

One of the reasons matcha feels so different is because it naturally contains L-theanine, an amino acid that's been studied for its calming effects.

L-theanine works alongside the caffeine that's naturally present in matcha, which is one reason many people describe the energy as feeling smoother and more focused than coffee.

Instead of a quick spike followed by a crash, the combination tends to create a steadier sense of alertness.

Of course, everyone's body responds differently, but for me, the difference has been noticeable.

I feel awake.

But I don't feel wired.

And after months of trying to calm my nervous system down, that feels like a huge win.

I'm not saying iced matcha has magically fixed my life.

I'm still getting used to mornings without coffee.

Some days are easier than others.

I'm still figuring it out.

But I do know this:

I've stopped relying on that frantic, jittery energy that I thought I needed to be productive.

Instead, I'm learning that calm energy can actually get the job done too.

Who knew?

So if you see me with an iced matcha in hand for the foreseeable future...

Just know she's doing a lot more than keeping me hydrated.

She's getting me through my caffeine breakup.

One sip at a time.
